One of the main goals of training camp was to find stability on offense, and that started with quarterback Matt Leinart, who was taking over for Kurt Warner.But as camp progress, coach Ken Whisenhunt because troubled of the offense's lack of productivity. While Leinart was accurate in the preseason, it seemed to Whisenhunt that he was failing to inspire confidence in teammates.Whisenhunt has chosen his words carefully regarding Leinart, but there is no question that his benching would not have happened had Whisenhunt felt Leinart's teammates were behind him.Now, the Cardinals will open the season with Derek Anderson at quarterback, and Leinart is in limbo, as The Sports Xchange first reported the team gave him permission to seek a trade this week.

First, no Ben Roethlisberger. Now, maybe no Byron Leftwich for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dennis Dixon, you're up next. Leftwich, expected to be the fill-in starter for the suspended Roethlisberger at quarterback for the Steelers, sprained his left knee in the second quarter as Pittsburgh (3-1) beat the starter-less Carolina Panthers 19-3 in the preseason finale Thursday night.

A capsule look at reasons for concern among teams in the NFC West: Arizona Cardinals 1. Quarterback. Obviously, the QB situation is a huge concern. The club is open to trading Matt Leinart, and new starter Derek Anderson hardly is a proven commodity. If Leinart leaves, either Max Hall or John Skelton, both rookies, would be the backup. With the QB situation unsettled, it might take awhile for the offense to find a rhythm. 2. Inside linebacker. This position remains a real concern with two new starters in place.

Leinart trade rumors blow ahead of Cardinals' final cuts While rumors swirled about his future with the Arizona Cardinals, Matt Leinart was competent in limited action Thursday -- which has been the case all preseason, SN correspondent Kent Somers reports. And that, Somers says, might be enough for him to remain with the team. Before kickoff against the Washington Redskins, stories began to circulate that the Cardinals had given Leinart's agent permission to pursue a trade.

With the controversy swirling ahead of him on the Arizona quarterback depth chart, Max Hall wrapped up his preseason with a big night. The undrafted rookie from BYU completed 7 of 9 passes for 126 yards and scored on a 6-yard run in the Cardinals' 20-10 victory Thursday night over Washington. Hall directed Arizona to two TDs and a field goal in his three possessions.
